Ticket prices for 2026 are expected to be around $575 for a standard ticket, with low-income tickets available for approximately $250. Vehicle passes are required for each vehicle entering the event and cost around $150. Tickets are sold through the official Burning Man website in several sales rounds, including a main sale and an OMG (Oh My God) last-chance sale.
When is Burning Man 2026?
Burning Man 2026 is expected to take place from Sunday, August 24 to Monday, September 1, 2026. The event spans 9 days, with the Man Burn on Saturday, August 30 and the Temple Burn on Sunday, August 31. Early arrival passes are available for those who need to set up camps before the general gate opening.
Where exactly is Burning Man held?
Burning Man takes place in the Black Rock Desert, approximately 120 miles (190 km) north of Reno, Nevada. The nearest town is Gerlach, NV (population ~200). The temporary city, Black Rock City, is built on a dry lake bed (playa) at an elevation of about 3,900 feet (1,190 m). GPS coordinates: approximately 40.7864° N, 119.2065° W.
Can I buy food and drinks at Burning Man?
Burning Man operates on a gift economy — there is almost no commerce. The only things you can purchase are ice (sold at several locations) and coffee/tea at Center Camp Cafe. Everything else must be brought with you or received as a gift. There are no food vendors, no bars, and no shops. Plan to bring all your food, water, and supplies for the entire event.
Is Burning Man safe?
Burning Man is generally safe, but the desert environment poses real risks. Heat stroke, dehydration, dust-related respiratory issues, and sunburn are common concerns. The event has medical stations (Rampart), Black Rock Rangers (volunteer mediators), and law enforcement present. The biggest safety risks are environmental — always carry water, wear sun protection, and light yourself at night.
Do I need a car to get to Burning Man?
While most participants drive, there are alternatives. The Burner Express bus service runs from Reno and San Francisco directly to the event. Some participants fly into Reno and rent vehicles. Carpooling is common and encouraged through the Burning Man rideshare board. Once inside Black Rock City, bicycles are the primary mode of transportation — bring one!
What is the cell phone service like?
Cell service is extremely limited to nonexistent on the playa. Some carriers have temporary towers, but they are overwhelmed by 80,000 people. Do not rely on your phone for communication. Bring a physical map of Black Rock City, agree on meeting points with friends, and embrace being disconnected. Wi-Fi is not available.
Can I bring my kids to Burning Man?
Yes, children are welcome at Burning Man, and there is a dedicated Kidsville camp. However, the environment is extremely harsh for children — extreme heat, dust, loud noise, and adult content are everywhere. Parents must be extra vigilant about hydration, sun protection, and supervision. All children must have a ticket. Many experienced burners recommend attending without children first.
What happens if it rains?
Rain on the playa creates a thick, clay-like mud that makes driving and walking nearly impossible. In 2023, heavy rains stranded thousands of participants for days. If rain is forecast, prepare by having extra food and water, keeping your vehicle on solid ground, and having tarps to protect your camp. The event may temporarily close gates during severe weather.
How do I go to the bathroom?
Burning Man provides porta-potties throughout Black Rock City. They are serviced regularly but can get unpleasant in the heat. Pro tips: bring your own toilet paper (it often runs out), use hand sanitizer, and visit porta-potties in the morning when they are freshest. Some camps build their own facilities. There is no running water or plumbing on the playa.
Can I leave and re-enter during the event?
Yes, you can leave and re-enter Black Rock City during the event, but it is not recommended. The drive to the nearest town (Gerlach) takes about 30 minutes, and re-entry lines can be very long. Your wristband serves as your re-entry pass. Many people make a supply run to Reno mid-week, but this takes most of a day.
